KNIFE REBUILDING & REFINISHING SERVICE
Bring your broken or worn knives to us for custom rebuild & refinishing.

We have had many customers over the years bring in old knives that were passed down from father to son, these knives have great sentimental value to our customers.

Let us walk you through the process we take to rebuild a fighting knife that a young soldier brought to us. His father carried it many years ago & then passed it to him.
The value of the knife is not important, but the sentimental value is priceless.

1) The knife handle has dry rot, the hilt is bent & there are years of rust on the metal. The sheath has since rotted away & we will also hand craft a custom leather sheath to match the character of the knife.
2) The blind pin on the end cap is drilled out & the bent shaft is now ready to repair.
3) Hard shoe sole leather is cut into discs to replace the old stacked leather handle. The leather can be dyed to match the sheath. Other handle materials are also available, the sky is the limit as we build to suit.
4) The metal is bead blasted to remove rust and scale. Nicks in the blades edge are ground out, shaft is straightened and re heat treated & the blind pin hole for the end cap is welded with nickle steel weld & re drilled.
Metal is MIL SPEC PARKERIZED to a flat matte black non reflective finish. KG KOTE is another option available to the customer & comes in OD GREEN, BLACK, & GUN METAL BLUE.Leather disks are center punched with a square punch to match the size of the shaft.
5) Leather stacked washers are pressed & glued in place then belt and hand sanded to a proper contour * Note the addition of a leather guard over the steel guard.

6) Blind pin is taper fit into end cap to secure the handle & then handle is polished on a felt wheel with bees wax to water proof & preserve the leather handle.
Next step is to make a custom leather sheath.
Knife repair & refinishing is complete!
1) A pattern is designed & then the leather is cut. If the leather is un tanned, we tan the leather first before cutting the template. Once the desired color is achieved, the design is cut & pieces are glued in place with special leather glue.
2) The sheath is sewn on our heavy duty hand operated leather saddle making machine. We can sew up to 1 inch of leather , tactical nylon & even KYDEX inserts on this baby!

3) Once the sheath is sewn & stiches are inspected, the edges are ground on the belt sander for a professional finish.
4) Snap buttons to secure the handle, belt extenders, or leg tie downs can be added at any time depending upon the design & customer requirements

KYDEX TACTICAL SHEATHS
Here is the first in our series of Kydex sheath & holster making.
The first example you will see is a tactical Kydex sheath for the V-42 Commando knife.
(1) 8 Mil flat black Kydex sheet is measured & cut for the V-42 Commando knife.
(2) Kydex strip 3 1/4 " wide by 10" long is heated in our Kydex oven @ 250 degrees until pliable, kydex is put into our Kydex forming press & an oversized blade blank is used as a forming die to compensate for shrinkage.
(3) Hot off the press, Kydex top cover is popped off the forming die & is ready for the next step.
(4) Molded top cover is measured & marked for drilling & riveting. The rivets are spaced out so each hole is approx 1 inch apart, this way parachute cord can be threaded through to attach the sheath to Load Bearing Vests (LBV's) with MOLLE attaching points.
(6) Rivet press flares each rivet securing both the top & back side of the Kydex sheath.
(5) Holes drilled with brad point bit for clean cut, next stage is riveting.
(7) Belt loop is riveted to top of kydex sheath back plate, note the two 90 degree straight bends to allow space for the knife handle & prevent blade binding when drawing or re sheathing.
(8) Belt sander used to trim edges of the Kydex sheath, round the tip & clean edges.
(9) Kydex sheath has taken shape, next we need to rivet a securing strap that can pivot for a left or right handed person, add 550 cord (Parachute cord) and some black bungee for a leg tie down.
(10) Close up of rubber securing strap with snap button, it can be changed for left or right hand draw.
(11) Para cord can be threaded through rivets & behind molle attaching points on Tac Vests, web gear etc. Belt loop allows you to wear the knife on your pants also, giving you several choices on how to wear it.
